Dr. Souheil Ben Smida

BIO

Dr Souheil Ben Smida is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Heriot‑Watt University, Edinburgh, where he is part of the Institute of Sensors, Signals and Systems. His work bridges advanced RF systems, microwave engineering, and modern signal processing for next‑generation wireless and sensing applications.
He received his M.Sc. in Electronics and Instrumentation from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris 6) in 2000, followed by a Ph.D. in Electronics and Communications from École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (Télécom Paris) in 2005.
From 2006 to 2008, Dr Ben Smida was a Post‑Doctoral Fellow with the iRadio Laboratory at the University of Calgary, before serving as a Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Bristol. He later joined Heriot‑Watt University, where he focuses on both research and teaching in RF and microwave engineering. Dr Ben Smida’s research interests include: Nonlinear characterization and linearization of RF and microwave power amplifiers, Microwave and RF instrumentation, Mobile and satellite communications hardware, Radar systems, including vital‑sign detection and contactless biomedical sensing as well as organic electronics.
